About Studio 101

Studio 101 is a supportive environment that encourages students to experiment, take risks and be academically fearless as they generate ideas for class assignments across the disciplines.

In this space, students connect with faculty and staff members, who help them with the creative process by posing questions and talking with the students about their ideas.

The goal is to show students that to achieve a desired outcome on an assignment that it takes a commitment to the creative and critical process. 

Vision

Studio 101 provides an environment where students, faculty and staff explore, experiment, experience and embrace the process of writing, design thinking and principles of play, resulting in enhanced creative and critical thinking.  

Principles of Play:

We believe that the process to create anything from a project to a paper is, and should be, a messy process. Sometimes it takes writing or drawing on whiteboards to generate and grow an idea. Other times, inspiration comes not from sitting and thinking, but by moving and doing.

Studio 101 has areas where students can play with blocks, play-dough, tinker-toys, and other hands-on materials that could help to foster perspective, clarity, creativity and critical thought.
